Creating a More Recognizable Brand (Part 3): Integrating your branding into your videos
This is part 3-a of the creating a More Recognizable Brand series. But first, let me talk about another tool I use most in my business that helps me accomplish that goal. This one is a little longer, so strap in.
My cell phone. That's it. Now I know what you might be thinking.
“DUH, Regan! I know I can use my cell phone for my business.” And I know you know that. But let's be real. Most entrepreneurs aren't using their cell phones to the full extent they could in their business.
I use my cell phone daily for things like Scheduling, phone calls, texting clients, checking my email, and, of course, getting on social media. But something most business owners overlook when using their phones for business is that they have a camera attached.
I know that you probably take pictures of what you're doing and who you are with. But the one thing we forget to capture in our day is the behind the scenes of our business. That's the part that a lot of business owners feel isn't necessary when it comes to marketing their business.
It matters to our ideal clients more than we think. In the next few weeks, I am also going to share how you can go about sharing about your life and business as an entrepreneur without making it feel like you're invading your own privacy when you post. But for this week, let's talk about your iPhone's camera settings and how to make your brand more recognizable using your phone.
Your camera settings on your phone are probably still set to the Default Factory settings that Apple and Android have. This is typically 1080p HD at 30 fps (frames per second) for iPhone and Android phones. These settings are turned on to prioritize saving space in your phone.
But if you are a busy entrepreneur who constantly needs to capture your business in the best way possible, here is what I recommend putting your iPhone's camera settings at: 4k at 24 fps (movie-like feel with natural motion blur) or 4 K at 30 fps (sharper/more realistic look). Changing these settings helps you to set the tone you want your clients to feel when watching your content.
In your camera settings, you can also check to make sure that you have your camera set to “Scan QR Codes” so that when someone at a networking event shows you a QR code to check out their website, you make sure you can scan it with ease. Under the “Composition” section, turn on the “Grid” and “Level,” so that you can use these to help you create more even and clean images. And scroll down further in your settings and turn on your “Len's Cleaning Hints” so that you always know when your phone camera needs to be cleaned off. These tips allow you to make sure that your video footage always looks consistent, clean, and true to the quality of your brand.
PRO TIP: When you are with a client (make sure you confirm they are okay with this), set up your phone camera on a tripod (doesn't have to be a fancy tripod either) and press record. Just let your phone capture a 2-minute video of you interacting with your client. You can then use this video for your next social media post.
Now on to Part 3-b of Creating a more recognizable brand.
Now that you know how to capture high-quality video content for your brand, let's talk about how you can take that video and intertwine other elements of your brand, so that your ideal client can tell right off the bat that it's your video.
1. When you are with your client, make sure you are wearing your branded apparel, or at least clothes with your brand colors (remember how we talked about your brand colors in Part 1 of this series?).
2. Make sure that your caption has content in it that pertains to the content of the video.
3. The caption of your video should be written in your brand voice, with your vision and mission being in the back of your mind as you write it. Go back to Part Two of this series to find that info (Linked here) if you need a refresher on your brand messaging.
4. Your on-screen text should be in your brand colors and fonts. This helps tie your video to your brand more easily. It can also help make your Instagram grid pretty (if that's something you care about).
When you follow these simple tips to make your content more recognizable, you go from being just another business to a brand that is consistently recognizable and distinguishable from other businesses in your industry on social media.
To help you get started with this for your brand, we created our Visual Brand Audit. It's a quick workbook-style guide that walks you through some simple questions to ask yourself when evaluating each of these aspects from our Create a More Recognizable Brand Series.
