Creating a More Recognizable Brand (Part 2): Mission, Vision, Values

This week in my business, here's what's happened: Getting prepped for some sessions I already have booked for this fall, preparing the rest of my fall calendar for release to you all on my email list and to the general public, and getting caught up on my email marketing. And some personal life things include finishing up some house projects that have been sitting around since June 🤦‍♀️. That's my life right now.

But as promised, we are continuing our series about creating a more recognizable brand. This week's speech is about your brand voice and messaging. If you have been in business a while, you probably already have a brand vision and mission statement in place. Let me share how I took my brand vision and mission and created a brand voice from it.

The Fortis Mission:

My mission is to partner with solopreneurs, small businesses, and creatives to create intentional brand photos that build marketing momentum, support consistency and brand cohesion, and help create deeper connections with their ideal clients.

The Fortis Vision:

I envision exclusively serving solopreneurs, local small businesses, and creatives by helping them create images that properly reflect themselves and the passion behind their business, which will connect them with lifelong customers because of their experience, intention, and passion being portrayed.

To achieve this mission and this vision, I needed my messaging and brand voice to be friendly, understanding, bold, creative, and grounded. This is why I share consistently on social media, with personal insights into my life and business (covers the friendly part). I try to relate to business owners' struggles by sharing in their pain points and offering solutions to those pain points through my blogs (that's the understanding and grounded part). And I create session guides, do lots of market research, and make my clients feel like their project is more like a collaboration (this covers that bold and creative part). All of these different written elements of my business help create a stronger brand voice and messaging for my business. Through each of these different ways that I communicate with my clients I bring a little bit of my mission and vision for my business into projects I work on for my clients.

When my clients read my content, I want them to know that I've got their back through their creative project. So that they can feel more comfortable trusting me with their photo needs. And you can do the same with your business. What 5 words do you want your clients to think of when they read your content or read about your business online? Use those 5 words as I did to drive your messaging and brand voice.

To help you get started with this for your brand, we created our Visual Brand Audit. It's a quick workbook-style guide that walks you through some simple questions to ask yourself when evaluating each of these aspects from our Create a More Recognizable Brand Series. Check it out Digital Storefront here!

Your brand voice and messaging should reflect more than what your business does. They should communicate your mission, vision, personality, and the experience you want your clients to have. In this post, I’m sharing how I turned Fortis Media’s mission and vision into a brand voice that is friendly, understanding, bold, creative, and grounded, plus how you can use five words to guide your own brand messaging and create a more recognizable brand.
