How does it work?Here is a step by step walkthrough of how a Family Session with Fortis works.

First, we start the conversation and decide whether we are a good fit for each other!
Together we will talk through your goals as they pertain to photos and I’ll recommend which of my photo packages would be the best fit for you! We have two options for one off sessions as well as a Family Portrait Membership (known as our Legacy Plus Membership).
After paying a 50% retainer and signing our contract we are officially off to the planning & getting hype stage! -
Part of the Fortis process is making sure that we plan ahead what we need to capture! This allows us to make sure we get all the necessary shots and still leave some room for creativity as it strikes us!
Onboarding: Once we have you added to our system you will receive an email with our Client Welcome Packet, our locations guide (that we exclusively share with just our clients), our recommended shot list for Family Sessions, and a client questionnaire. Later on you’ll also get our Style guide (which is also exclusively for Fortis Clients).
Planning Session: After you have had a chance to look through all this information and fill out the questionnaire we either get together in person over coffee (which is my favorite) or we hop on a video chat.
Custom Session Guide: I’ll put together a summary of everything we talked about in our Planning Call session including our schedule, shot list, and any other important info. -
After we have our plan in place it’s time for the most fun part! The actual shoot day! You just need to show up and I’ll direct you while I capture all the best angles and poses, using the Customized session guide as our anchor!

3-5 business days after your session you’ll receive a beautiful online portrait gallery with all your images! From the gallery you will be able to heart your favorites, download the ones you want, and order prints of them, if you have that need. You’ll also receive a personal use license with your gallery!

Bring your PupBring your pup with you to your session.
We all know that our dogs are often an extension of the family. So we have an option for bringing your pup with! All we ask is that you bring an additional friend with to manage the dog while we shoot the rest of the session.

Extended FamilyBring your grand parents, cousins, aunt’s and uncles. Bring the whole clan and let’s capture some shots of the whole family and of each Household all in one session. All in one place, all at one time. This is only available to add on to our Legacy Collection.

Mini Seasonal SessionYou got a Legacy Session, but you want just a little more. Which is why we offer an option to add on a Mini Seasonal Session to your order when you book a Legacy Session. A Legacy Plus Membership is for families who want to remember every single fleeting moment as their kids grow. With a total of 4 sessions every year, each session is designed to focused on specific things.
First session - Your Immediate Family
Second session - Your Extended Family
Third & Fourth session - 2 mini sessions to be used whenever you want within a year of your first session.

We send out reminders before the end of your membership period.

We organize our photo albums into an online gallery system called Cloudspot. You will receive a gallery link that will have all your photos from each session, divided into individual folders by session. This way your photos are all in the same space and it makes it easier to order prints, album books and more.

We will go over all this in our Family Session Planning Call or in person during our Planning meet up.

As a member perk, you can bring your pet to one of your sessions for no additional fee. We still require that you bring someone with you to watch your dog the rest of the session.
What is the cost of the Legacy Plus Membership?
The Legacy Plus Membership is designed for families who want their story documented throughout the year instead of just once.
Inside the membership you receive four sessions across the year including a full nuclear family session, an extended family session, and two seasonal mini sessions.
If booked individually, these sessions normally total $2,050.
Most families intend to schedule photos throughout the year but life gets busy. The Legacy Plus Membership removes the guesswork by planning your family photography ahead of time.
Legacy Plus Members receive preferred scheduling, a full year photography plan, and member pricing.
For added flexibility, membership payments are spread throughout the year. Every quarter you will receive an invoice for $437.50, making it easy to plan ahead for both your family portraits and your budget.
Legacy Plus members receive the full year of sessions for $1,750, creating built in savings while making it simple to plan your family photography for the entire year.

Not a problem! I understand, and you aren’t the first to ask me this! Which is why I offer my clients a Styling Guide that goes over simple tips and tricks for what looks good in front of a camera as well as references to some local resources and businesses that can help you feel and look your best for the photos.

At this time, family sessions are held at pre approved public spaces (outdoor and studio locations available). This allows me to create the best lighting and environment for your photos while also maintaining consistent safety practices for my business.

Family sessions tend to book several weeks in advance, especially during the summer and fall seasons. Booking early is the best way to secure the date and time that works best for your family.

Absolutely. Family sessions are designed with children in mind. We keep things moving, incorporate natural interaction, and allow kids to be themselves rather than expecting them to sit perfectly still. Even quick bursts of laughter or movement often create the most meaningful photos.
Many parents are surprised at how many beautiful images come from those little moments.

That is totally fine! We have access to a few amazing studio locations that are wonderful. The Studio fee will be added to the final invoice.

That is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Children do not need to sit perfectly still or smile on command to create beautiful photos. I guide families through relaxed prompts and interactions so we can capture genuine moments together. Some of the best images often happen in the in between moments when kids are simply being themselves.

If the weather looks unfavorable, we will simply reschedule. Michigan weather can be unpredictable, and I always want your session to take place in the best possible conditions.

Extended family can absolutely be included in the Full Family Session with an extended family upgrade. This allows time for additional groupings and ensures everyone is photographed well.
Legacy & Mini sessions are designed for immediate family households and do not include extended family.

Many children take a few minutes to warm up during a photo session, and that is perfectly okay. I create a relaxed environment where kids can move, explore, and interact naturally with their family. Once they feel comfortable, their personality begins to shine through.

Not at all. Most families I work with say this before their session. My role is to guide you through natural poses and simple prompts so you never feel unsure about what to do. The goal is not stiff posing, but creating genuine interactions so your photos feel relaxed and authentic.

Most families I photograph are not used to being in front of the camera, and that is completely normal. I guide you through the entire experience from planning your outfits to helping you feel comfortable during the session.
By the end of the session, most families say it felt much easier and more relaxed than they expected.
